Why Muslin Fabric?
Muslin is a 100% cotton fabric of tightly woven plain weave. It is made in a wide range of weights from delicate sheers to coarse sheeting. Muslin is a versatile, multi-purpose cloth used in dressmaking, furniture polishing, theatre sets, and even medicine. It is a healthy, organic fabric and can be put to good use around the home without spreading chemical residue and, most importantly is reusable and stops the cycle of waste.
The outstanding feature of muslin fabric
There are so many positive aspects for muslin such as fine fabric, breathable, fast-drying, lightweight and does not irritate the skin. The characteristic of the fabric is moderately smooth and will give a comfortable feeling. Muslin is 100% natural, strong and durable for washing.
Research results show “Muslin fabric” is the most effective fabric for reusable masks.
The Department of Medical Sciences of Thailand studied the performance of the different types of fabric to find out which type of fabric is the best suited for replacement “Medical Mask” by using 3 methods to examine
- Microscopy to study fabric fibers for particle protection.
- Test the flaky by washing methods
- Test the water permeability efficiency
After testing they found that Muslin is more suitable for making masks than other types of fabric. Due to the best waterproofness, the fabric fibers are better to block fine particles (such as droplets) than other types of fabrics and can be used many times
